Scarf Warp Update

Just a quick update today: this is scarf number 3 and the weft is a silk cashmere blend from Treenway. Its a bit more beige that this photo shows. The feel of the scarf is lovely as you can imagine. I think for number 4 I will use a steel grey silk yak blend I found in the bottom of my silk storage box over another tencel weft. These scarves are taking a lot more time to weave due to their complexity so might as well 'go big or go home'!

The pattern is really neat and the opposite side is simply a mirror reverse of the front. Its actually very easy to spot a mistake due to the clear pattern definition.
On the personal front: we have just undergone 3 full days of no water in the house and I can't tell you how luxurious a shower was yesterday. The pump for the well died and it chose freezing weather and a snow storm in which to do it. So $2,000.00 later.....I got a pump for Christmas!
Bet that beats what ever you'll get in the 'weird department' :)
Try something today: consciously think every time you turn on a tap, flush, or even wipe a counter. Yup, we reply on indoor plumbing a great deal and it contributes tremendously to our quality of life.
So does our weaving....

  1. Beautiful! I feel you on the water bit, when we first moved into this house the water heater turned out to be broken. We were buying tubs of water and taking showers at the neighbors! Our landlady had a few different plumbers here with various prices and it turned out to be the blow off valve needed replacing- which Gordon did lickity split. Funny that no plumber caught that it only required $12, and not a completely new water heater. Glad you got your pump all fixed up.

  3. You are really a "trooper". I recall once upon a time when I talked you into selling our nice home and buying a boat to live on. Then just when winter hit us and froze the boat to the bottom of the river...the water system broke down. Do you remember all those nice walks up to the marina office for a shower in the middle of the night? Romantic, huh?

  4. Carrie: yes, you can go through some interesting times when you are newly married. Good luck!

Thanks Shannon...a trooper? I'm not sure I had much choice other than to go with the flow (or lack there of)

Bruce (or Hub): Nice of you to remind me of my honeymoon. NOT.
I haven't let you get away with much since that escapade have I?
A short leash is definitely best!
You can make amends in 2010 when it's our 25th...

  6. This project is gorgeous, Susan! Nice to have something that pretty to distract you in the midst of having no water... (you poor thing!). We lost power for one very long day during the ice storm (and some people around here still don't have power - a week later), but could still take hot showers, thank goodness...

  7. Your scarves are beautiful!!!

Owning a home sure isn't cheep but lets face it we all need water. In the long run I suppose $2,000 is cheaper than paying a water/sewage bill every quarter.
